What can I do?

DON’T GIVE FAKES A CHANCE!

You found a fake profile? Someone is trying to lure you to another website? Something went wrong during a date? Were you financially defrauded? We will intervene and advise you on how to proceed.

  • Safe Dating: Better Safe than Sorry

Our goal is to bring people together and we’re always delighted when our users meet up in real life. Unfortunately, meeting up doesn’t always go as you might have imagined.

    Recommendations for your date:

    • Only arrange to meet up with users that you trust.
    • Call them before actually meeting up.
    • Always arrange to meet in a public place that you know well.
    • Never meet at his or her place or a quiet place for the first date.
    • Tell friends about the meeting and be reachable on your mobile phone.
    • Remember that you can leave at any time when it doesn’t go how you imagined.
    • If you are invited to join a video chat, always keep in mind that everything that you do there or reveal of yourself may be recorded.

    Something went wrong:

    • have you been harassed?
    • have you been robbed?
    • are you being blackmailed?

Take the profile ID (included in the link of the profile if you open it with your PC/Mac in a new tab) and file a report with the police immediately. Report the user in question to us, using the feature under the same name in the app or on the website. It is the fault of the perpetrator alone and not yours.

  • Fake-free LOVOO

We always try to be a step ahead of people that attack LOVOO. However, a completely “fake-free” LOVOO is currently not possible.

We need your help to spot fake profiles and improve our Anti-Spam algorithm. This is the only way that we can identify and disable such profiles. How exactly this works is described below. But first things first:

    Listen up, men!

It is frequently the case that our Customer Care Team determines that the reported profiles involve genuine users that have simply not responded to contact attempts. This phenomenon is particularly observed when men write to women and do not receive a response. They assume that it must be a fake profile and subsequently report it.

In more than 85% of all cases, the contacted women are simply not interested or dislike the way the chat request was written and therefore reject it. This is at least in part due to vulgar formulations or messages that are too direct.

    Report fakes

We need the profile ID of the fake profile in order to carry out a successful database search. We explain how you access the ID in these five steps:

    1. Open the LOVOO website www.lovoo.com and log in with your profile data.
    2. Search for the profile to be reported, e.g. in your chat messages.
    3. When you have found it, right click on the profile picture and on “Open in new tab”.
    4. Copy the entire link from the address bar of your browser (this reveals the user ID to us).
    5. Inform us of the incident and the user ID using our contact form.

Once we have located the fake profile, we will disable it immediately. It will then no longer be visible to LOVOO users and its creator can not carry out any more actions.

There are sometimes misunderstandings or conflicts between users. In urgent cases we intervene with appropriate measures.

    Reporting a profile

Have you come across profiles that

    • violate our guidelines?
    • harass you and/or other users?
    • offer advertising for third parties or promise services?
    • could be underage people but are registered as adults or the other way round?

Report them to us! Go to the profile in question, click on the options symbol in the profile and select the reason.

    Blocking a profile

Do you no longer want to be contacted by a user? In this case, you can quickly and easily block this user. To do this, open the profile in question, click on the options symbol in the profile and then select “Block”.

Are your images being used on an external profile? We do not tolerate such behavior on our platform and will help you to resolve the incident.

    Locating the fake profile

We first need to locate the profile so that we can identify and disable it. To do this, we need your help. We need the profile ID, which you can determine as follows, in order to carry out a successful database search:

    1. Open the LOVOO website www.lovoo.com and log in with your profile data.
    2. Search for the profile to be reported, e.g. in your chat messages.
    3. When you have found the profile, right click on the profile picture and on “Open in new tab”.
    4. Copy the entire link from the address bar of your browser (this reveals the user ID to us).
    5. Inform us of the incident and the user ID using our contact form.

We recommend that you then file a report with your local police authorities. Our Customer Care Team will send you all the important information you need for communicating with the authorities.

  • Verify your profile

LOVOO offers various verification methods. This ensures that a user is the person that he or she claims to be.

Show others that you are real!

It is almost impossible to automate the verification process. That’s why you need to take action yourself. It will give your profile a higher value and show others that it is not fake.

This is how it works - you have several options:

    • Email verification (optional): Ensures that users use authentic email addresses and cannot create countless fake profiles.
    • Facebook login (optional): Ensures that the logged in user also has a valid Facebook profile. Bringing Facebook to the table also makes spam protection effective.
    • Photo verification (optional): Ensures that the user shown in the profile photos is actually the person behind the profile.
    • SMS verification (mandatory for profiles classified as spam): Ensures that the user of the profile has a cell phone number and actually exists. This prevents the automatic creation of profiles on the LOVOO platform.

Blocked and inactive profiles receive an automated request to re-verify the profile following a certain period of time. If this is not completed, the profile will be removed from the platform. This ensures that only users that have recently been active will be displayed.
